When To Use
Use C403™ when a specialty contractor or supplier will provide design input during the design phase before performing the work, a practice known as design assist.
What It Does
C403 is a standard form agreement that allows a client to hire a consultant to perform design-assist services for a project. Design assist is a form of collaboration in which a construction professional provides information to assist a design professional’s design, typically before pricing for the work has been agreed upon or before the work has been awarded.
The scope of a consultant’s design-assist services can vary greatly depending on the consultant's expertise and the project's needs. C403 allows the parties to insert a description of the design-assist services or to identify an exhibit containing such a description. C403 can be used as a stand-alone agreement or as a complementary document to many owner/contractor or owner/construction manager agreements.
Additional Information
Client and consultant terms are intentionally flexible. In most instances, the consultant will be a subcontractor or material supplier, and the client will be a CM, contractor, or owner.
