When To Use
Use C404™ when a contractor needs to hire a consultant to provide delegated design services for specific components, such as structural connections or prefabricated systems. It can be used as a stand-alone agreement or as a complementary document to many owner/contractor or owner/construction manager agreements.
What It Does
C404 is a standard form agreement that allows a contractor to hire a consultant to perform delegated design services for a project. Delegated design describes a form of design collaboration where the contractor assumes responsibility for an element or portion of a project’s design. Delegated design is commonly used for retaining walls, trusses, mechanical systems, fire suppression systems, curtain walls, and many other building components. C404 is a flexible agreement that allows the parties to define the portion of the design that will be performed by the consultant.
Additional Information
Contractor and consultant terms are intentionally flexible. In most instances, the contractor will be a general contractor, construction manager, or subcontractor, and the consultant will be a properly licensed design professional.
